SHORT BIO:

Annita holds a Sociology and Social Anthropology degree from the University of Kent, UK and a ΜΑ degree in Political Science with a specialisation in International Relations from the University of Cyprus. Her master’s thesis concerned the topic of gender and wartime violence in International Relations for which she particularly studied the case of the wartime sexual violence of 1974 Cyprus. Annita has worked in the NGO/CSO sector where she coordinated a team of ESC volunteers and managed various research and educational EU-funded programs. She is currently working as a Project Coordinator and Proposal Writer and since 2020 is volunteering as a board member at the youth NGO YEU Cyprus, where she holds the position of Vice President. Finally, she is a member of the Girls in STEAM Academy as the Project Officer, an initiative that aims to empower young girls in Cyprus to follow a career in STEAM fields.  

EXPERIENCE:

Annita has an extensive experience as a project manager of EU-funded projects. She is also an experienced youth worker and trainer as she has been working with young people and adults (especially women and migrants), using tools such as non-formal education, arts and culture, and youth-led and bottom-up methodologies. Through both her academic and professional experience, her expertise is mainly focused on the systemic challenges of gender equality and education, youth empowerment and participation and diversity and inclusion, for which she organised and facilitated various workshops and training activities on a national and European level. A core objective of her work is to investigate, critique, and find solutions to urgent social challenges that negatively affect underprivileged/marginalized sections of the population. She advocates for human rights and building a sustainable and inclusive society through grassroots movements and participatory approaches in community development.
