Today we celebrate EuropeDay!

📅Held on every 9th of May, since 1985, Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe and commemorates the signing of the Schuman Declaration.

👉The Schuman Declaration laid the foundations for the European Union by proposing to place French and West German production of coal and steel under one common High Authority, paving the way for the European Coal and Steel Community – Europe’s first supranational authority.

✈️Although this year we can’t be together on Europe Day, the European Parliament is inviting us to celebrate by hanging an flag out our window or balcony!

📸The EU Parliament will collect the nicest pictures and videos from all over Europe, so don’t forget to share yours using the hashtag #EuropeDay!

💻Also, tomorrow follow the livestreaming of the opening event of Europe Day 2020 at 11:00 (Cyprus time) here 👉 http://epfacebook.eu/EuropeDay2020Event

❓Did you know that Europe Day is celebrated on 5 May by the Council of Europe, but on 9 May by the European Union?

👉The reason is that The Council of Europe was founded on 5 May 1949, and hence it chose that day for its celebrations when it established the holiday in 1964.
