On October 2nd, representatives of the Cyprus Youth Council (CYC) participated in a meeting with Mario Nava, the new Director-General of the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) of the European Commission. The meeting took place at the House of Europe in Nicosia, and included key social partners such as Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO) Cyprus Workers’ Confederation (SEK) Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB)Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK).
Representing the Cyprus Youth Council were Secretary General Andreas Kyprianides and Programme Development Secretary Lito Zymaride. The discussion focused on critical labour market challenges in Cyprus, including the evolution of employment opportunities, social welfare issues, and the growing concerns around housing and the rising cost of living.
Mr. Mario Nava highlighted the European Commission’s commitment to social inclusion and the importance of collective efforts to address these challenges and strengthen the European labour market. The Cyprus Youth Council reaffirmed its dedication to empowering young people through sustainable employment initiatives and meaningful social dialogue.
