The Cyprus Youth Council (CYC) announces one (1) full-time “Project Officer” position with a fixed-term contract to contribute to the overall activities of the CYC. The successful candidate will be based at the CYC office in Nicosia and will be responsible for managing and implementing European and national projects, as well as other actions/activities of the CYC. The Project Officer will report directly to the Executive Secretary and the CYC Board of Directors.

CYPRUS YOUTH COUNCIL

Established in 1996, the CYC is the only platform representing Youth Organizations in Cyprus, acting as their coordinating body with the state and as their representative at European and international fora. The CYC has as its member organizations the majority of youth organizations of political parties, student organizations, labor organizations, civil society organizations, rural organizations, Turkish Cypriot organizations, national minorities, and many other youth organizations, representing a wide range of interests, including social and human rights, environmental issues, and, in general, youth rights.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROJECT OFFICER

  • In collaboration with the CYC Secretariat (Project and Policy Officer and Executive Secretary), design, develop, and manage youth projects (Erasmus+, other projects and actions, EU-funded projects, or other national entities) for the CYC.
  • Represent the CYC at conferences and events abroad related to the projects managed and others (availability for frequent international travel is therefore required).
  • Organize, conduct, and participate in international meetings and projects within the CYC’s framework, as necessary.
  • Visit and organize activities, consultations, and workshops in urban and rural areas throughout Cyprus for the implementation of the CYC’s actions and projects.
  • Monitor, report, inform, and be able to present youth policy trends in Cyprus and the EU to all stakeholders (youth, youth organizations, CYC, European Youth Forum, etc.).
  • Act as the liaison between stakeholders participating in CYC’s actions and projects at local, national, and international levels (e.g., Municipal Youth Councils, Youth Board of Cyprus, European Commission, etc.).
  • Conduct research and prepare reports for the CYC, draft, and publish relevant texts and newsletters/articles regarding the CYC’s actions and projects.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned within the scope of their responsibilities and concern the CYC.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • University degree or equivalent recognized qualification (according to KYSATS) in any field. A degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, or Education Sciences will be considered an advantage.
  • A postgraduate degree or equivalent recognized qualification (according to KYSATS) in a relevant field of study, obtained after at least one year of study, will be considered an additional qualification.
  • Very good knowledge of Greek and English based on the acceptable criteria set by the Public Service Commission (www.psc.gov.cy).
  • Good knowledge of other EU languages and/or Turkish, according to the acceptable criteria set by the Public Service Commission, will be considered an additional qualification.
  • Excellent knowledge of information and communication technology skills, e.g., ECDL certificate holder.
  • Experience in writing and/or managing EU-funded projects is considered an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in youth organizations will be considered an advantage.
  • Availability for in-person representation of the CYC at international conferences and events.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, initiative, responsibility, collaboration, and communication skills, sensitivity to youth issues, public relations, and international cooperation.
  • Negotiation, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under time pressure.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Full-time contract, 12-month duration with the possibility of renewal for an additional one (1) or two (2) years.
  • Annual gross salary for the “Project Officer” position ranges between €17,500 – €18,500, including the 13th salary.
  • 21 days of paid annual leave.
