Today, we held an online meeting with MEP Loucas Fourlas to present our work and Cyprus’ candidacy in the upcoming elections of the European Youth Forum, as well as to talk about various pressing issues regarding youth in the EU.
During the meeting, we talked about the role of Cyprus Youth Council and some of the projects we run as such as the EU Youth Dialogue and the House of Youth Representatives.
In addition, we focused on the socioeconomic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people.
According to a recent study conducted by the European Youth Forum and the International Labour Organisation, 1 in 6 young people have lost their jobs after the pandemic and around 1 in 2 have symptoms of anxiety and/or depression.
We also discussed about:
· The benefits of being a member of the EU
· The need for strengthening the participation of young people in decision-making processes.
· Ways to cooperate in order to promote legislative changes on an EU level, on youth matters
Finally, we presented the priorities of our candidacy in the upcoming elections of the European Youth Forum (20-22/11) and asked for the support of MEP Fourlas in our campaign. You can read more about our candidacy here – christianaxenofontos.com
We would like to thank Mr. Fourlas and Parliamentary Assistant Marina Savvidou for accepting our invitation to meet and the fruitful discussion we had.
