Delegation from EU, Middle East & North African countries to discuss
migration & asylum with officials and NGOs from Cyprus
16 November 2018 – Nicosia
Public event | Cleopatra Hotel 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Diversity Event, KISA’s 20th anniversary| Chateau Status (buffer zone) 7:30–10:30 pm

Since its entry in the EU, the Republic of Cyprus has seen its migration profile largely modified, in a context susceptible to regional geopolitical stakes. Ahead of a pivotal year, with European elections coming up in May 2019, the terms of the debate in Cyprus are very similar to those in other countries: what policy tools should be promoted with civil society to ensure a human-rights based approach protective of the rights of migrants and refugees.

KISA & EuroMed Rights – a network of over 80 grassroots civil society organisations across the Mediterranean – are pleased to invite you to a public event from 2:00 to 6:00 p.mat Cleopatra Hotel on 16 November 2018 on ‘Access rights for migrants and refugees in Cyprus’ (programme attached).

This event will provide a unique opportunity for participants to share their views with a delegation of over 25 NGO representatives from EU (Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Spain) and non-EU countries (Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, and Turkey). Keynote speakers will include Cypriot officials, the UNHCR, Cypriot civil society organisations and EuroMed Rights Executive Committee representatives.

On that same day, in the framework of the bi-annual meeting of EuroMed Rights Migration and Asylum Working Group in Cyprus, KISA is organising a multicultural event at Chateau Status from 7:30 p.m., in the buffer zone in Nicosia that will also mark its 20th anniversary of advocating for equality and human rights of all people.

This special diversity event will be an opportunity for migrants and refugees to share food prepared by them and to also exchange stories, experiences and views with the EuroMed Rights delegates, KISA members and friends, representatives of civil society and various local stakeholders and actors from public life, the media, academia and the cultural community.
