The Cyprus Youth Council participated in the “Open Dialogue of the House of Representatives with civil society in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe: Your opinion on the Europe of tomorrow counts”.  President Maria Kola and Policy and Projects Officer Andreas Kyprianides attended the discussion on behalf of the Cyprus Youth Council.

The process of the Open Dialogue is part of the Conference on the Future of Europe, aiming at conducting a series of direct dialogues between the EU and European citizens, to enable citizens to share their ideas, views and concerns and to participate actively in shaping the future of the EU.

The topics discussed were:

  • Climate Change, Environment & Health
  • European Democracy, Values ​​& Rights, Rule of Law & Security
  • Stronger Economy, Social Justice & Jobs, Education, Culture, Youth, Sports & Digital Transformation
  • The EU in the World & Immigration

The four panels for the above topics consisted of MPs, MEPs, state and independent officials, academics, scientists, and young people.

Christiana Xenofontos participated in the panel “European Democracy, Values ​​& Rights, Rule of Law & Security” as an elected member of the Board of Directors of the European Youth Forum.

Antonis Kourras participated in the panel “Stronger Economy, Social Justice & Jobs, Education, Culture, Youth, Sports & Digital Transformation” as the National Representative of the Citizens of Cyprus in the Conference on the Future of Europe (Working Group: Education, Culture Youth, Sports).

Vasiliki Papasavva participated in the panel “The EU in the World & Immigration” as the President of the Cyprus Youth Diplomacy.

The Cyprus Youth Council congratulates the House of Representatives for the excellent organization of the event and stresses the urgent need to continue and strengthen the process of direct dialogues between the institutions of both the European Union and Cyprus with the youth and society in general, to strengthen youth participation in decision-making processes.

The event took place on 22 February at the Filoxenia Conference Center, while the process of the Conference on the Future of Europe started last June and will be completed in late spring 2022.

Furthermore, in the framework of the Conference on the Future of Europe, “The 25 Percent Project” was created by young people for young people, with one goal: to give everyone in Europe the support they need to raise their unique voice on the issues they care about!

How will this be achieved? By making sure that the views and ideas of young people will be included in the Conference on the Future of Europe.
